2024 Extension and Q1 2025 Estimated Taxes

Due 4/15/25 for Individuals, C-corps, and Small-Business Owners

To help you stay compliant and avoid penalties, Durfee Law Group (DLG) recommends making electronic quarterly estimated tax payments. This is especially important for those whose income is not subject to regular tax withholding.

Why Estimated Payments MatterEstimated Tax Payments

Federal and state income taxes operate on a pay-as-you-go basis. That means taxes must be paid as income is earned or received throughout the year.

  • Taxpayers who are self-employed or in the gig economy are generally required to make estimated tax payments. Likewise, retirees, investors and others frequently need to make these payments because a significant portion of their income is not subject to withholding.
  • By making quarterly estimated tax payments, taxpayers can avoid penalties and uphold their tax responsibilities.

Failing to pay enough throughout the year can result in penalties, even if you pay your full tax bill by the end of the year.

The IRS offers a streamlined process via your IRS Online Account, where you can:
