Safe File Document Storage
Your Safe File
Document storage is an often over looked element of estate planning. We store our client’s original documents in our fireproof safes as a value added service. This service includes an annual due diligence audit of the Safe File for the limited purpose of verifying that your documents are either in our possession or accounted for. (The audit does not include a substantive review of the document contents.)
Why Safe File Document Storage?
Having a Safe File with Durfee Law Group is a vital part of “Preventive Law.” By having your original documents in your Safe File, they are accessible in emergencies. As your attorneys we are able to prepare certified copies and fax them anywhere in the world at your request. They are protected by attorney client privilege. We are able to assist you when up-dates and reviews are required. We are able to make sure that no disgruntled family member will obtain unauthorized access to the original documents. Also, this eliminates the need for an expensive bank safe deposit box. Certain documents in particular, such as a Durable General Powers of Attorney, are like a “loaded gun” and should be secure to prevent unauthorized use. Retaining them in your Safe File Document Storage in keeping with the Custodial Letter you executed is an important aspect of our role in protecting you.
Supplemental Documents.
Many of our clients elect to place additional items in their Safe File including such documents as Statements of Wishes (detailing special instructions to trustees and estate administrators), Tangible Personal Property Inventory (disposing of personal property), After Death Instructions (with funeral and burial arrangements), Records & Data Location Worksheet (identifying the locations of important legal documents and vital information such as security codes and safe combinations), and other special instructions, information or documents that may be important in the event of death or emergency. If you wish to add such documents to your Safe File Document Storage, either deliver them to our office or mail them to us by certified or registered mail. There are no additional charges for adding such items to your Safe File.
Safe File Cost.
The annual Safe File fee is $150.00, which covers costs of storage, the audit, and an annual letter. (Although our costs have gone up, this rate has been the same since the mid-90’s.) Please call us @ 480.324.8000 if you have questions or concerns about your Safe File Document Storage.
